We are currently accepting applications for a CPR Instructor. Please review the job description and if interested, complete the online job application.
CPR INSTRUCTOR/TRAINER – Current American Heart Association instructors who are looking for a decent side hustle should apply. If you have a current BLS or HeartSaver provider card, we can train you to be an instructor for us. If you have neither but possess a larger-than-life personality that transfers into a passion for teaching others how to save a life, then we are willing to start from scratch with you.
Unless you are already an American Heart Association instructor, you will go through the instructor training process as laid out by AHA. Depending on your schedule, this process will take 15-25 hours. You will be compensated for your training hours.
Training includes:
- Online AHA Instructor Essentials which teach you how to be a good instructor
- Getting really, really good at your CPR/AED and First Aid Skills
- Shadowing our current instructor’s classes
- Being monitored by the lead instructor on classes taught by you
Phone and video interviews can be conducted now, but we will require an in-person meeting before hiring. If you’re interested, you should know what you’re getting yourself into; there are a few deal breakers.
You must have a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license and a good driving record. The classes are in and around Champaign, Vermilion, Piatt, Douglas, Macon and Ford Counties. We provide all the equipment, but you must be able to get to and from the classes on your own. How far you can/want to travel is up to you, but your mileage is covered.
You must be an excellent communicator and clear orator. The main curriculum is for lay rescuers so medical terminology or background is not important, but helpful. You must speak clearly and exude confidence in your topic.
You must be able to lift and move heavy items up to 40 lbs. You will be handling assigned equipment which includes large and bulky bags of manikins, A/V equipment and carts.
You must represent our life-saving mission enthusiastically. We preach the gospel of CPR, AEDs and First Aid. You must believe in the training and equipment if you plan on spreading the word with us.
Some good news…You will get to choose your own hours. Typical classes run all day Monday through Friday, and Saturday mornings. Morning classes typically start at 8:00am or 9:00am. Afternoon classes typically start around 1:00 or 2:00pm and evening classes start around 6 or 6:30pm. Classes can last anywhere from 2 hours up to 5 or 6. Almost every Saturday morning there is a class. In addition to classroom time, there’s travel and set up times involved. You can pick and choose your schedule, but you must teach at least two classes per month. Typical pay for classes is $150 – $300 each class.
