Imagine your rescue team is called to the scene of a patient with a terrible injury, such as an amputation. During the assessment of the patient, one of your team collapses to the ground in a heap from stress. Now you have two patients. What do you do?
Advanced Drills are a specialized offering from VES. This alternative, real-life training goes beyond typical classroom sessions of CPR and First Aid. Drills like these are most valuable when used for intermittent training because we leave the classroom and focus on real-life skills with “real” patients, medical emergencies and equipment.
Drills are done in batches of two. Each set of two drills takes about two hours to complete. Before and after each drill we conduct pre- and post-drill briefings to help reinforce the message to the student rescuers. A drill can include one patient or multiple. Along with typical manikins, our instructors also serve as patients providing real-time feedback and realistic answers to student assessments. In addition, we utilize special effect makeup depicting graphic wounds and obvious illness; all designed to create critical thinking and prioritization.
Partaking in a special drill training can be extremely beneficial to the preparedness of a workplace. These courses place an emphasis on patient communication and treatment skills with an added level of urgency and reality. VES will work with each workplace to tailor drills to be most beneficial to each client.
Here are two examples of drills in action. The first linked HERE is an unknown medical scenario, and the second linked HERE is a bloodborne pathogen clean up. Our instructors will ensure that everyone who takes the course leaves with the knowledge and skills to take on any situation that could arise in a workplace setting.
